What is Stone Paper?

Stone paper is a revolutionary writing surface made from calcium carbonate - recycled limestone - rather than wood pulp. It looks and feels like premium paper, but it is produced without cutting down a single tree, without water in the manufacturing process, and without bleach or acids.

It is one of the most significant innovations in sustainable stationery in decades.

How is stone paper made?

Stone paper is made from approximately 80% calcium carbonate (limestone) and 20% non-toxic resin. The limestone is ground into a fine powder, combined with the resin, and pressed into smooth, bright white sheets. No water is used in this process. No trees are harvested. No chemical bleaching is required.

The result is a surface that is denser, smoother, and more durable than traditional paper.

How does stone paper compare to regular paper?

Traditional paper production is resource-intensive. For every tonne of conventional paper produced, between 17 and 24 mature trees are cut down, and up to 100,000 litres of water are consumed. Bleach, acids, and chemical treatments are standard parts of the process, generating wastewater and chemical discharge.

Stone paper eliminates all of that.

Regular Paper Stone Paper
Trees used 17 to 24 per tonne Zero
Water used Up to 100,000 litres per tonne Virtually none
Bleach and acids Required Not required
Wastewater Significant Minimal

Every Daily Bliss notebook is made from stone paper, meaning no trees were cut down and virtually no water was used to produce it.

What does writing on stone paper feel like?

Stone paper has a silky, smooth writing surface unlike anything traditional paper can offer. Pens glide effortlessly across the page with no friction, no paper dust, and no ink bleed. The surface feels dense and refined - a noticeably premium experience from the first word you write.

Is stone paper waterproof?

Yes. Stone paper is naturally waterproof and resistant to spills, moisture, and humidity. Unlike traditional paper, it will not warp, tear, or allow ink to bleed through when exposed to water. This makes it ideal for travel, outdoor use, and everyday environments where traditional notebooks would not hold up.

What pens work best on stone paper?

Stone paper works well with ballpoint pens, gel pens, and pencils. Erasable pens such as the Pilot FriXion are particularly well suited - the smooth surface allows for clean, complete erasing without damaging the page. Fountain pens are not recommended as stone paper is non-porous and ink may take longer to dry.

Is stone paper recyclable?

Yes. Stone paper is fully recyclable. It can be recycled through appropriate waste streams, and because it contains no wood pulp or chemical treatments, it does not introduce the same environmental burden as traditional paper waste.

Why does Daily Bliss use stone paper?

We chose stone paper because we believe the tools you use every day should not come at the expense of the world you live in. The world needs more trees, not fewer. Stone paper allows us to create notebooks that are beautiful, premium, and functional - without contributing to deforestation or excessive water consumption.

Every Daily Bliss notebook is our commitment to that belief.
